Content and Editorial Policy

Kozure Tabi is a blog set up to solve the problems families run into when they want to enjoy travelling with their children.
This page sets out our policy on how content is produced and how the site is run.

Our five commitments

1. We value first-hand experience and primary sources

As far as possible, what we publish is written on the basis of experience we have actually had — places we have visited, things we have used. Locations, services and products featured in articles are assessed from our own experience and then corroborated against official information and announcements from reputable specialist bodies. Where information is based on hearsay or inference, we say so explicitly.

2. We work to publish accurate information

Information about travelling with children includes things that cause real harm to readers if they are wrong: step-free access at a property, allergy provision, prices. Kozure Tabi takes great care not to publish inaccurate information or misleading wording. Errors we become aware of are corrected quickly, and the update date is shown on the article. Corrections can be sent to us through the contact page.

3. We clearly separate advertising from editorial

Kozure Tabi may earn revenue from affiliate advertising, but the presence or absence of that revenue never changes the content or the assessment. Where we have received a product free of charge or assistance with coverage from a company or manufacturer, or where we have been paid an advertising or PR fee, we state “PR” or “advertisement” within the article and clearly distinguish it from articles produced at our own discretion. We comply with the rules on stealth marketing under Japan’s Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations, which came into force in October 2023.

4. We maintain objectivity and neutrality

We aim to provide information that is useful to readers from a neutral standpoint, without unfairly favouring or excluding any particular brand, product or service. In articles that compare or assess products and services, we honestly convey the drawbacks and the caveats as well as the benefits. By spelling out who a given thing suits, we aim to give readers what they need to judge for themselves.

5. We refer to reliable sources

Kozure Tabi refers to reliable sources such as the following.

  • Public bodies such as the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and the Japan Tourism Agency
  • The official websites of railway companies, transport operators and individual properties
  • The official websites of the manufacturers of the products and services concerned
  • Specialist bodies such as the Japanese Society of School Health (for articles on health and childcare)
  • Academic databases such as J-GLOBAL, and others

How we produce content

1. Research and gathering primary information

We gather primary information on the article’s topic: our own experience, official websites, announcements from public bodies. For topics touching on health and safety, we also consult specialist bodies and academic sources.

2. Writing

We write on the basis of what we have gathered. So that readers can make the choice that fits them, we make a point of spelling out who a given thing suits.

3. Fact-checking

Before publication we re-check factual details: figures, proper nouns, rules and schemes, product specifications. For information that changes readily — prices, opening hours, the terms of a scheme — we state the date it was confirmed or updated within the article.

4. Publication and updating

After publication we update articles as their information goes out of date. Corrections can be sent through the contact page, and we amend them promptly once confirmed.

Advertising and affiliate links

Kozure Tabi takes part in affiliate programmes including Amazon Associates and Rakuten Affiliate, and may receive a commission when a product is purchased through a link in an article. The presence or absence of that revenue does not affect the assessment or the content.
